Chateau De Beaulon XO Cognac | Notes and review

Chateau De Beaulon XO Cognac | Notes and review
This guy loves the Left and Stairs 😱
The cognac from Chateau de Boulon is a delicacy. I have known the cognac for several years. I have personally been to the castle gardens. and in the little shop. The producer Christian Thomas is usually there personally. A great person! If you want to do something good for yourself, treat yourself to a Cognac Chateau de Boulon!
I agree with Chris that the big four houses are more accessible, and hence would be a great way to start your cognac journey. However, you should never stop at the big four houses, and you should try the smaller brands.
I thought it tasted like dishwater. I must remember to tell my mother how bad it was in the hope I never get it again.
Well I appreciate that alcohol might clear off the germs from your dishes. But I would probably use some fairy liquid (or another dish soap) 😂 Tbh it's not great, and hear what you're saying Cheers
Got myself a bottle today and will try one day very soon.. I paid $53 here in LA California (March 2024)
sooooooooooo...............did you like it? (or waiting for the weekend to crack it open?) $53 sounds very reasonable, for getting all the way from France to SoCal.
It pronounced as "en" 😁
Hi do they have hairdryer in room
I think they had those wall mounted ones. Not great. May have upgraded since I went though.
I’ve been wanting to get into Brandies but, didn’t know where to start, and when I go to the Brandy section i don’t get very far cause I see how expensive Brandie’s can get. But, i wanted something to start with that isn’t too expensive. But not bottom shelf. Something that drinks well straight or works in a brandy based cocktail. Just something i that’s not super expensive but a good representative of brandy , so I can determine if I like it enough to buy pricier brands.
Price is such a big factor nowadays. I certainly struggle to find value in a lot of things I buy now. Especially spirits 😵💫 I think any vsop from the big four brands are good starting points. (My personal favourite would be Martell) Other than that...... ABK6 is good and Frapin is good value too. (I mention loads more in my cognac 101 video) Hope you enjoy whatever you chose. Cheers
Too sweet. Definitely way too sweet.
Some famous faces on that video!
Montifaud is great value. Great suggestion! Thanks for watching 👍
I guess you drink what you can afford. You can buy some some really good wines for under $20, but apparently not so with cognac.
That's true. But hopefully you're not planning on drinking a bottle of cognac in one evening, like you would a bottle of wine. I always try to stay within a budget. I have a $100 bottle that I have been nurturing for well over a year now. Special occasions and when I'm feeling relaxed is probably the only time it comes out 😂 Please drink responsibly.
@@TheLastDrop I'm not much of a drinker myself.
Dusse’
Try the Cognac from Armenia 🇦🇲
I will try. Any brand recommendations?
You got me bro. This weekend i am going to buy my first cognac. Remy martin, or frapin i think
Nice. Good luck, hope you find it a good experience. Remy should be easy to find.
oh dear.
If I can't drink whiskey straight, is it likely to be the same with brandy or cognac?
Hi George, I think so. But that is no bad thing! Cognac cocktails are awesome. With them I would stick to a VS or VSOP when mixing. You will get the best and most affordable results. I would encourage you to try straight first though. especially a VSOP. Most are only 40% abv so often have less "burn" Hope you find something you enjoy Cheers
There is actually 2 vs versions offered from Meukow. Does this bottle say black edition? If so that’s aged a bit longer and a bit smoother and a majority of the grapes are sourced from grand and petite champagne region
Hi J H, This was not the black special edition. Sounds interesting though. Especially for a VS. Cheers
My first cognac was Camus Elegance VSOP and it was very good. I wanted to avoid the brands that are available in our local supermarkets, mainly because I already have some experience with whisky and the selection is not the best and is often overpriced. So I went to a liquor store and picked up a very reasonably priced vsop cognac of a brand that I didn´t know before 😀 Later I found out that Camus is also one of the well-known brands and their cognacs have won many competitions. If you come across Camus VSOP, give it a go, it´s nice for everybody.
Another vote for Camus. Nice! I have really enjoyed all the Camus I have had. (Review on my channel 😉) Has an excellent bottle of the borderies vsop a year or two back. Cheers!
Do yourself and others a favor - add Camus. Had some on EVA airlines business class and was very impressed. I was previously a fan of Courvoisier. I also thin Hennessy is better but Camus is best in this price range.
Cheers Wilhelm. I do enjoy a Camus. I had a lovely bottle of their borderies VSOP a year or two ago. I reviewed their standard VSOP too and mention them in my Cognac 101 video. It's also really quite available now globally. So definitely a great beginners Cognac, if you can get it.
I like Baron Otard VSOP. I've also tried Hennessey VSOP; Remy Martin XO; Baron Otard XO (years ago).
Yet to try the baron. I don't know why either 😂 Cheers
Interesting. Your first cognac. I have this one too.
Thanks for watching. Seems so long ago this video now. Cheers
Thanks for that review. I'd like to buy the Rock Oyster here. We only get Scallywag which I really like.
Cheers again Mr Anton. Shame they changed the name to rock Island. Liquid is still the same though.
Yep, that first sherried Kilkerran 8 year old cask strength was amazing. I really like that Old Forester to for someone that doesn't dive into Bourbon to often. That Curry Stark is amazing value to considering the ABV. All the best Chris👍
Thank you Mr Gibbs 🙏
Brilliant barrage of blends, always great to see the delightful Cutty Sark Prohibition. Nice collection and will always be envious of Kilkerran Port! Cheers Chris 🥃🥃
Cheers Jeff. I was dubious of the port initially. But it is rather good.
Interesting runthrough, Chris. Thanks for sharing. Slàinte mhath
Thank you Frank 😀
Some great bottles there Chris. That Cognac sounds interesting 🤔. Great video mate cheers for sharing.
Cheers Leejay! Don't forget the full review of the cognac is available 😀
Some cracking drams there Chris 🥃
Cheers Mark. Sure I forgot I had some of them 🤣
Some nice bottles there Chris...enjoy buddy.....
Cheers Alan!
Nice one Chris. Scanned through there to see what you had 😉. Will watch at length later.
Cheers Jim 👍😀
Hello , is this dresser actually black ????
Hi, Yes it is matte black. (the inside of the drawers are white though) Cheers
Is there any burn or bitter ?
Burn wise, if you are used to drinking spirits neat. Then as this is at 40% it has minimal burn, if any at all. The age also helps with no burn. I don't recall any bitterness the finish may have some burnt caramel notes. but it is well balanced with with other spices etc. Cheers
Me. I like Baron Otard VSOP. It's always available here. I also like Augier. If the big four, I'd chose Hennessey.
Yet to try the baron. Hoping they will be at the cognac show in London. I enjoyed the augier I tried quite a while ago. Cheers
its total rot gut garbage
Don't hold back Mike 👍 😂 Cheers, have a great new year 🎉
CAMUS - Beautiful cognac it’s my favourite, not very popular or available in the UK but huge out in Asia where I first came across it 👌🏽
Indeed difficult to find in the UK. Been looking for the xo for a while (at a reasonable price of course) Cheers Anthony
@@TheLastDrop i have the XO it’s amazing, available on Amazon 👍
Its very nice stuff.
It has it plus points 😁 Cheers
I just tried this Friday. I love it neat..
👍 it's certainly a good cognac to have around. Cheers
This stuff is boss not for fairy's lol fairy's BEWARE
Exactly. Always drink responsibly 👍
The name is actually not French, but Norwegian, as the founder of the brand was "Thomas Bache-Gabrielsen" from Holmestrand in Norway. And the "ch" part is pronounced with a "k" sound, so you were quite right.
Cheers Rebecca. Glad I got the pronunciation, at least, right back then 🙂
Hey Chris, if silly yt alerted you for a thumbs down, that was silly me without my glasses on ;). Thanks for the insight into the live tasting, must have been a wonderfully chaotic blast! 🎉
😂 thanks Luna. All feedback is welcome 😂 It was a great time, hopefully see you soon (Limburg maybe)
Tasting blind is always fun indeed. Thanks for sharing, it looked like a blast!! Cheers Chris!!
Cheers Bill. It was great fun. I did have to leave earlier than most. A lot of bottle sharing happened after I left 😬
Thanks for sharing. Brilliant weekend.
You're welcome Roy. Great meeting you!
Montage-y is a perfect format for this Chris - we watched while Craig was over last night and played a wee game of spot the Barfly over a dram together. Great work. ❤ I’m now off to get some public speaking lessons 😂 That was probably one of the funnest whisky days/weekends ever and I’m grateful to have these videos to remember it by.
Thank you Roy. It was an amazing weekend and I'm glad to have documented it. I hope people are encouraged to join this wonderful group of people I'm now privileged to call friends. Looking forward to the next time 👍
Denise and I had the pleasure of your company and she definitely enjoyed herself at the blind tasting captained by Scott Munro.
Cheers Peter and Denise! Always a pleasure 🎉
Absolutely brilliant Chris thank you. Can't wait till next year buddy.
Thank you Jim! Was a pleasure seeing you as always.
Thanks for sharing your videos and thoughts on the weekend. Pleasure to meet you finally also Chris. All the best buddy.
You're welcome Paul. And the pleasure was all mine. You're a legend! Cheers
Shout out to Fraser Thistle for being such a gentleman that day. And yes that intersection is definitely odd.
Cheers Tim 😀
Another great video Chris! …. That was another fantastic day with some really good and surprising drams. Thanks for sharing 🥃
Glad you enjoyed it. Shorter than the others and no dancing 😂 Cheers Tony
@@TheLastDrop yeah I was disappointed lol …. Suppose the dancing had to come to end at some point haha 😆
Brilliant work Chris 👏 3 awesome videos, who wouldn't want to get involved with whisky now eh?
Exactly, highlights the awesome community! Cheers Leejay.
Looked amazing! I hope Roy does this again I'd love to be there 🥃
Cheers Al. I'm sure he will do it again.
